CBI starts probe into Pushpa Bhalotias death registers FIR
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has finally registered an FIR in the sensational murder of Pushpa Bhalotia, a house-wife from a renowned industrial family in Raniganj after the Calcutta High Court ordered the central probe agency to take over the investigation. The Calcutta High Court had in February this year ruled that there were serious discrepancies in the way the probe was conducted by the state CID, asking a Joint Director-level officer of the CBI to take necessary steps to start the probe. However, things changed when the post-mortem revealed that a bullet was found in her head. With Bhalotia’s in-laws insisting that she had committed suicide, and the post-mortem showing a gun-shot wound to the forehead, the victim’s brother, Gopal Agarwal, had last year, moved the Calcutta High Court to transfer the probe to CBI. Also Read – Modi formed OBC commission which earlier govts didn’t do: ShahAfter a single bench approved Bhalotia’s brother’s petition, the state CID moved a division bench headed by the Chief Justice in a week, where the decision to transfer the probe out of the state was overturned. Continuing with its investigation, the state CID had eventually arrested Manoj Bhalotia, the victim’s husband, who was named as prime accused in the FIR. However, he was out on bail shortly, and the state CID subsequently filed a chargesheet, ruling the death as a suicide. Disappointed with the probe, Agarwal again moved the Calcutta High Court to have the CBI investigate the case.
