Hotmail users finding their inboxes deleted Microsoft promises a fix

first_imgA lot of fuss was made about Y2K, but maybe Y2KXI was the year we really needed to worry about: hot off the heels of an iOS bug preventing alarms from going off after the switch to the New Year comes an even bigger problem… Hotmail users who rang in the New Year to discover that their emails had gone missing. The bug looks panic-inducingly serious from a user’s perspective. If your account is afflicted, when you login to Hotmail, you’ll be sent to a deleted mail folder instead of the standard inbox, making it appear that all of your inbox emails have been lost.Luckily, the problem’s not as serious as that, and Microsoft has been eagerly responding to complaints logged in their online forums, promising that all user emails will be recovered… but a fix has yet to be issued, and Microsoft’s keeping mum about what caused the problem to begin with.It’s unknown how widespread the issue is, but Hotmail has over 360 million users around the world… even if a small fraction of those accounts are afflicted, that’s a lot of people without their email.Read more at MSNBClast_img
